The Process

The Facts

Kid Health Epidemic

More than one-third of US children are overweight or obese. These rates are significantly higher among kids from low-income, minority populations.

It's Expensive

It’s estimated  that medical costs of obesity in the US totaled about $300 billion. Annual healthcare costs for one obese child? About $6,700 with Medicaid.

It's Damaging

Kids suffer a higher risk of diabetes, heart disease, and some cancers, plus poor body image and lower self-esteem. Physically and mentally, the consequences of obesity weigh heavy.

The Solution

5 Ways Fly Movement Succeeds

Give Students a Goal

Our program provides students an opportunity to reach a fitness goal through fun, rewarding team competition using fitness trackers. As a result, they learn how to develop goal setting habits, their fitness activity increases, and they establish a positive feeling towards physical activity. If the students achieve their goal, they are awarded with sport equipment (soccer balls, footballs, basketballs, frisbees, hula hoops, jump ropes, etc.).

Nutritional Education

We provided students with an enjoyable and innovative way to learn about the benefits of fruits and vegetables. Using “Super Food” trading cards along with an interactive website, children can test themselves by playing games and taking quizzes to earn points.

Continuity

We implement Fly Movement in six-week segments during the fall and spring sessions. Six weeks of implementation (fitness challenge + education + experience) are necessary for impact – but the sports equipment, and take home nutritional education are accessible year round.

Wearable Fitness Trackers

Research shows that movement in the classroom enhances cognitive learning, helps keep the fidgeting down and the creativity up.

A Family Fun Run

Running is one of the easiest ways for the whole family to get into a healthy, active lifestyle. In additional to doing wonders for the body, running together promotes family bonding, teaches values, and moves the kids be a part of something big.
